Despite allowing three runs in the third inning, Waxahachie defeated Mansfield 6-5 on Friday. Mansfield’s big inning was driven by singles by Hilbur and Dent.
Mansfield opened up scoring in the first inning. Mansfield scored one run when Franco tripled.
The Indians evened things up at five in the top of the sixth inning. Justin Smith drove in two when he homered over the left field wall.
Hunter Poynor was the winning pitcher for Waxahachie. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out one. Grayson Smith threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Josh Gates started the game for the Indians. He lasted three innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out one. The starting pitcher for Mansfield lasted four innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out five and walking one.
Caden Davis led Waxahachie with two hits in two at bats. Waxahachie was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Freddy Bravo made the most plays with four.
The Indians will be back in action next Monday and Friday when they take on the Grand Prairie Gophers.
