Waxahachie watched the game slip away in the sixth inning and couldn’t recover in a 6-4 loss to Grand Prairie on Monday.
The Indians were on top most of the game, but watched the game slip out of reach on timely hits by the Gophers.
Grand Prairie pulled away for good with four runs in the sixth inning. Grand Prairie scored its runs on a single that found its way to the wall on an error by the left fielder, which he later scored on a passed ball. The next hitter was walked and eventually picked off at first. Waxahachie then walked a Gopher hitter followed by a single past the third basemen. With bases loaded the Indians had a chance to get out of the inning with a double play ball. The call at first did not go the Indians way. The next Gopher hitter singled up the middle scoring two to give Grand Prairie all the runs they would need to win the game. Lucas Brandt came in relief to get the Indians out of the inning by striking out the next Gopher batter.
Waxahachie could not get anything going in the top of the seventh as they were sat down in order.
#10 got the start for Grand Prairie. He surrendered four runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out nine.
Josh Jammer was on the pitcher’s mound for Waxahachie. He allowed four hits and two runs over three innings, striking out three and walking zero. Lucas Ferguson and Caleb Perry entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.
Elijah Martinez, Caden Davis, Perry, Blaize Blaylock, and Landon Davis each collected one hit to lead the Indians.
